Hello Dolphin Families!

I am Melissa Bourgeois, and I am honored to serve as the Assistant Principal here at Northwoods Park Middle School. This year marks my fourth year in this role, and I am grateful every day to be part of such a dedicated and caring school community.

Northwoods Park holds a special place in my heart because it’s where I first began my teaching journey many years ago. I grew up in Mississippi, and after marrying my husband, we moved to Hawaii, where I earned my Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Hawaii Pacific University. In 2002, my husband received orders to Camp Lejeune, and we settled in the Richlands area. It was during this time that I rediscovered my childhood dream of becoming a teacher. I began my career as a Career and Technical Education teacher right here at The Park.

Since then, I have had the privilege of working at Richlands High School and Northside High School, gaining valuable experience at both the middle and high school levels. During this time, I earned my Master’s in Education, my Master’s in School Administration, and my National Board Certification. These experiences have shaped me as an educator and leader, and I remain committed to lifelong learning and growth.

My family is deeply connected to Onslow County Schools. My daughter graduated from Richlands High School in 2016, and my son graduated in 2023. Seeing the dedication of our educators as a parent has fueled my passion for ensuring every student feels supported, challenged, and celebrated in their educational journey.

Throughout my career, I have learned that strong relationships and a positive school culture are the foundation of student success. As Assistant Principal, I strive to create an environment where everyone has the opportunity to grow, continue learning, discover new possibilities, and embrace the wonder of each day. Open communication, trust, and collaboration are at the heart of what we do, and I look forward to partnering with each of you as we bring our GLOW vision to life this year.

When I’m not at school, I enjoy spending time with my family, tackling home projects, and finding new ways to stay organized and motivated. I am proud to be part of the Dolphin family and excited to help our students and staff shine brightly this school year.
